According to KDVR, one man is dead after a car carrying six people flipped upside down on a Brighton, Colorado, highway. The above photo shows a police officer distracting the youngest child as her father’s body was pulled away from the scene of the crash.
Jessica Matrious was driving behind the SUV that crashed and told 9 News that one of the car’s tires blew and the car subsequently swerved out of control. She pulled over to help and took the photo when she noticed the police officer holding the child.
“It’s so horrible to see something like that happen, especially because it could have been prevented,” she said. “If the father was wearing a seatbelt, then he’d still be here.”
None of the passengers, including the four children, were wearing seat belts and all of them were ejected from the car when it crashed. The child’s mother was airlifted to the hospital, as was one of the other children. The remaining kids were brought to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
