(Simple Organic Life) It has long been said that a dog is a man's best friend (and a woman's best friend, too, of course)! I have three dogs and not only are they my best friends, I know that my life would not be as fulfilling without them. Sure, they can be irritating at times (like when they decide to potty on the floor because they don't want to go out in the rain), but I don't know what I'd do without them.
All of us dog owners know what great companions our dogs are. We all know how much love and happiness they bring to our lives. But, what you may not know is that having a dog in your life can actually make you healthier. And, if you allow your dog to sleep with you, the health benefits increase. How? Well, just read on to learn 7 health benefits of sleeping with your dog.
1. They can help with depression
Dogs offer unconditional love to their people that some may feel they get nowhere else. So, having a dog to pet and snuggle with at night just makes you feel happier and more content.
2. They provide warmth
Some people sleep with their dogs simply to keep them warmer at night. Sure, adding an extra blanket or two can accomplish the same thing. But, having a soft, warm, furry dog next to you is so much nicer than adding another blanket.
3. They make you feel more safe and secure
A lot of people get a dog for safety reasons. And, you don't necessarily need a trained attack dog to achieve a feeling of security. A dog's bark can deter a home intruder because of the attention it brings from homeowners, as well as, neighbors. So, it makes sense that sleeping with your dog will help you feel safer and get a better night's rest.
4. They relieve stress
Just petting a dog can help you feel less stressed out. The repetitive motion of petting a soft, furry creature is very calming. In the same manner, being able to reach out and feel that soft fur at night helps relieve the stress of the day.
5. They're very comforting
Having a dog close to you at night can provide a great deal of comfort, is very relaxing, and, in turn, helps you fall asleep faster.
6. They improve quality of sleep
Because of all of the reasons listed above, sleeping with a dog can improve the quality of sleep you get at night. Even some insomniacs have reported a better sleep experience after bringing their dog into bed with them.
7. Your dog benefits, too!
Our dogs love us and want to be with us all of the time and, of course, they love being spoiled! Allowing your dog to sleep with you will help increase the bond your dog feels toward you while giving your dog all of the benefits you are getting, too!
